Excerpt from a news interview following a downtown disturbance earlier that day in Durham, NC, in the mid-60s heard by Mom, Dad and I at the dinner table while listening to the local radio station.
Interviewer:
"It was quite a scene down here today, wasn't it ma'am?"
Respondent:
"It shore was!"
Interviewer:
"And we understand you were injured in the fracas?"
Respondent:
"Naw, I was hurt in the knee!"
The three of us nearly aspirated our food in unison upon hearing this.
